The last hour of the war of Russia and Ukraine, live | The EU agrees a new package of penalties to press Russia on the eve of the Turkey meeting International

Zelenski believes that Putin will not go to Türkiye out of fear, but he gives him “a little probability”

The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, does not believe that his Russian counterparty, Vladimir Putin, will go to Turkey to meet him this Thursday because he will be afraid “, but he left” a small probability “to the Russian president so that he can demonstrate that he can be” brave “and believes that the presence of Donald Trump would be of great help.

In an interview with various international media, including the French French, Zelenski explains the meaning of the meeting that wants to keep Thursday in Turkey with Putin, with whom I assume that it is “impossible” that both can agree, especially now, but “find a format to end the war”.

“There are unconditional things on which we must agree and therefore the technical groups will discuss for seven, fifteen hours,” he says, before insisting on the fact that to advance the situation there must be “an unconditional fire”.

He explains that if he meets Putin “we have to go out with a political victory, a high fire, an exchange of all prisoners or something of that style. If he does not come, he does not seek a political victory”. In fact, the Ukrainian president stresses that the base is that above fire “although there are violations” as has already happened in the past, because in any case that has reduced the long -range bombings and it would be for the world “the sign that there are efforts to end the war”.

But from the beginning, Zelenski advances that the Russians will seek apologies to justify Putin’s refusal to go to Türkiye. In that context, he estimates that Trump’s arrival in Türkiye “will activate the arrival of Putin” which “will be more likely”. This is the reason why “Trump can be of great help, if he came”, since he would have left Putin in evidence: “He will appear as a total defeat for him”.

When asked about the possibility that the President of the United States will interview first with Putin, Zelenski replies that “everyone understands that they cannot agree on us without us, however. And that nothing will come out of that meeting, to say what they say”.

And to the question of the pressure that the American administration puts on Kyiv, when the same is not doing with Moscow, the Ukrainian president tries before removing the iron from the matter: “Everyone tries to press pressure”. But then he underlines that “what we need, above all, is that Trump understands that Putin is found. And we, on our side, must be intelligent and show that we are not slowing down the process, even when it comes to sometimes committing uncomfortable commitments.” (Efe)
