The joint initiative of the IT research group and of Communications Research and the University of Aveiro (UA) is part of the PTQCI-Portuguese Project Quantum Communication Cracy.

At the time, a demonstration of the pilot version of the “national quantum network” will be demonstrated to “highlight the potential of safe communications and calculation based on quantum technologies.

The network consists of five knots: four located on the Campus of the University of Aveiro (electronics departments, telecommunications and information, physics department and two buildings) and a fifth node installed at Altice Labs, in Aveiro.

“The distribution of cryptographic keys through quantum technology guarantees messages of encrypted messages between different domains, confirming their potential for communication solutions highly resistant to any type of encryption,” says a declaration.

The step to “represent significant progress in the construction of telecommunications infrastructures supported by quantum technology, capable of being integrated into complex systems and guaranteeing a high level of protection for sensitive communications. Rail and versatility of the solution demonstrate its value in maximum safety, in particular for applications in the national defense sector”.

What is the PTQCI project

The PTQCI project, a abbreviation of the Portuguese quantum communication infrastructure, is an initiative of 6.8 million euros to develop and implement quantum communication infrastructures in Portugal, under the European quantum communications network, an initiative that tries to establish quantum communications throughout Europe.

Supported by the European Commission as part of the EU’s European digital program, it is led by Deimos Engenharia and composed of a consortium that includes universities and research centers, such as the Telecommunications Institute, ISEL and IST, national entities such as GNS, IPQ and FCCN, industrial entities such as Deima, Adyta, Omnidea and WarpComications and Telecommunications, telecommunications and telecommunications and telecommunications Telecommunications. such as IP Telecom and Altice Labs.

Group of investigation into the quantum communications of the IT – Polo de Aveiro

The research group on quantum communication IT, Pole de Aveiro, “its main objective is the development and implementation of private and insurance information services based on the use of quantum and efficient technologies”.

The team, led by Professor Armando Nolasco Pinto, is part of researchers with basic formation in electrical engineering, IT, physical and mathematics engineering, which promote a complementary and multidisciplinary approach in the development of new quantum encryption protocols, in their implementation and experimental validation, as well as to perform tests on the system field. In this context, the group has actively coordinated and participated in numerous internationally relevant projects and working groups at the NATO Information Systems Technology (IST).
