The municipality of Amman, with the participation of students from architecture and urban planning colleges in a number of Jordanian and private universities, launched the third edition of the student competition, innovating cities.
The current version of the competition is implemented in cooperation with the C40 laboratories and the urban planning laboratory of the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Lab
The competition aims to provide sustainable urban solutions to plan and develop the southern entrance to the city of Amman, to become a living model for sustainable cities
The Sustainable Development Unit and the Oman Strengthening Unit organize this competition in cooperation with the network of forty-city in the C40 climate, because it seeks to train student teams to provide ideas and solutions that can be applied in an urban development project within the boundaries of confidence, taking into account the needs of the local community, and by improving innovative solutions to deal with the challenges of climate change.
In turn, the executive director of the engineering planning sector, Rima Odeh, underlined the importance of this initiative in the development of town planning for the city of Amman and its future, and the importance of the balance between urban growth and the supply of basic services such as the transport of housing and green spaces, in order to create an urban environment that maintains the pace of the city needs of its durability for future generations.
It explained the importance of modernizing the town planning and organization system and its organized legislation aimed at coordinating efforts and improving the culture of joint action between the authorities concerned.
For his part, the director of the Sustainable Development Unit and the Oman Reculate Eng. Nisreen Dawood stressed that this competition aims to integrate students into town planning and the development of their city and present them to the strategic plans of the secretariat, such as the plan of climate change and the Amman plan of a green city.
The head of arts and culture of the beautiful Daridan community, Daridan, referred to the partnership between the municipality of Amman and the C40 foundation and network through the climate planning laboratory, which aims to develop interrogative urban strategies for climate change, improves cooperation between the authorities concerned and integrate sustainable solutions into Oman urban planning.
