Kirill Dimic, the special economic envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, met on Thursday with representatives of the American administration, in what was the first visit to a senior Russian employee in Washington since the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict.
“We see a positive dynamic in our relationships … The process of dialogue and decision will take time. But at the same time, it is progressing in a positive and constructive way,” Dimic commented on the Russian press in Washington.
When recognizing “disputes at various points,” the Russian emphasized the existence of a “dialogue” to help “overcome these differences.” “We also discussed the potential cooperation in the Arctic, rare minerals and other sectors,” he added.
The meeting will be held a day after US President Donald Trump announced definitions about many countries, but not about Russia, which was the goal of US sanctions because of the war with Ukraine, which started in February 2022.
The Russian envoy received the declared definitions, saying that “a precedent for independent growth and the creation of sustainable employment” in the United States.
Upon his question about the visit, a spokesman for Karimin Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the special envoy was “under his period”, that is, to discuss economic cooperation.
Kirill Dmitiev, director of the Russian sovereign fund, does not participate in talks on Ukraine.
Dmitiev has been personally under US sanctions since 2022 and had a temporary suspension of these restrictions to obtain a visa to travel to the United States.
One of the Russian negotiators in the US -Russian talks held on February 18 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was a few days after the first official call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump since the Republicans returned to the White House in January.
