General Memories: Casa Laura has a tradition for nearly six decades

Raimundo Antônio Veloso knows every inch of the store that has been managed for nearly 60 years. Casa Laura, a traditional selling point for utensils and household items in Boulevard Castilho France, is more than just a job: it is part of the living history of the Belém Shopping Center.

“I have been working here since I was 14 years old,” Raymondo recalls, with the appearance of Hanin. “I met all the Portuguese and the Italians who were here at the time. Everything was different.”

He says he started as an employee in a supermarket in the old city neighborhood so that he can buy his own commercial point.

Trade, according to Raimundo, survival due to honesty and effort from previous generations. “The people who worked here were honest. The Portuguese around them were working hard,” he recalls.

Despite the years of resistance, the challenges have intensified recently, especially with the arrival of online stores. “The Chinese came here and breathing the movement. They sell something not original. They say that the bucket is only 100 liters and 90!” He criticizes, expressing the lack of luxury in competition.

The strength of the grocery store and the link with the past

A few meters away, another story of flexibility remains firm. Claudiner Rodriguez de Souza runs a grocery store that already exceeds a century of existence, also located in the mall of the capital of Barra. He took over years after an employee in one of the Portuguese Portuguese owners.

“I work here 22 years ago,” Claudinier says. “

He believes that the longevity of work is due to the efforts of the founders and the link with the faithful clients. “There are people who buy here for decades. They are parents, then children, so far the grandchildren. It makes us stand,” he said.

To continue on the market, he also had to adapt. “We change the goods, adjust what we sell, and we always try to keep the store active. The secret is resistance and re -invention itself,” reveals.

Sincerity in response to modernity

While shopping centers multiply and sales of sales over the Internet, the resistance of the traditional institutions of Belém depends on personal relationships, the confidence that has been built over the years, and above all, customers who appreciate human service and emotional memory of purchase in the same place as always.
