WAQF Bill: On Friday, the prime minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was “embarrassed” that a parliamentarian of his state said during a discussion on the WAQF law drawing in Parliament that Muslims did not get permission to offer EID prayers on the streets. Together with this, he apologized for this statement.
Sarma said in a press conference of the cabinet meeting that even the people of Assam does not want to offer prayers on the streets, because there are beautiful mosques in the state. Apparently sarma referred to the deputy of the Gaurav Gogoi congress. However, he did not take any name directly.
During the discussion on the bill, Gogoi criticized the government for presumably preventing Muslims from offering EID prayers on the streets and questioned BJP’s commitment to minorities’ rights. Sarma said: “People from all over the country call me for this. We are embarrassed and as prime minister I apologize to people across the country.” “
He said that this request was not made by Muslims who want to offer prayers on the streets. He said that the deputy observations made the idea that only a community contributed to the struggle for the freedom of India. Sarma said: “The deputy highlighted the role of a single community. Mahatma Gandhi, Gopinth Bordoloi, Subhash Chandra Bose or other prominent people did not mention.

When asked about BJP’s possibilities in the Panchayat elections to be held in two phases on 2 and 7 May in the State, Sharma said that it would have been positive in all elections: Panchayat, Rabha Hasong Parishad, Bodaland’s regional council and elections of the Assembly because the people of Assam has great confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said that the extreme declaration made by a parliamentarian of Assam in Parliament made us sad and we are ashamed. Sarma said that the people of Assam will teach such a lesson to such people when the moment arrives.
