On Monday, the United Nations Security Council informed the Taliban sovereigns in Afghanistan that peace and prosperity “cannot be achieved”, until they withdraw their ban on women and girls to obtain education, work and speak in public places.
The Council, the strongest body of the United Nations, also condemned the continuous terrorist activity in Afghanistan “in stronger terms”, asking to strengthen the efforts to deal with the deterioration of the economic and humanitarian situation in the country, according to a relationship of “Associated Press” on Monday. The decision of the Council, which was unanimously adopted by its fifteen members, extended the political mission of the United Nations in Afghanistan, known as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (Unama), until March 17, 2026.
The Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, following the withdrawal of the forces of American NATO (born) from the country after two decades of war. No country officially recognizes the Taliban government as a government of Afghanistan because of its suppression of women. Women are not only prevented by work and the entry of many public places and education after the sixth grade, but they must wear a veil that completely covers their bodies and their voices cannot be heard in public places.
The Security Council quickly invited the “Taliban” movement to “retire from these policies and practices quickly”.
The special envoy of the United Nations, Rosa Autonibayeva, president of the United Nations Mission to provide assistance to Afghanistan, told the Security Council last week that depends on the “Taliban” movement, clarify if you want to reintegrate Afghanistan into the international system or not – “and if so, if it were ready to take the necessary steps on this path” or while the main spokesman for the “Taliban”, Zabah Allah. Mujahid has published a declaration on his official account on the “X” platform of this month, in which he said that “the dignity, honor and legal rights of women are among the priorities of the country, in accordance with Afghan law, culture and traditions”.
Islamic countries and religious scholars have said that depriving women of education and work is not part of the law.
The Afghan said that Afghan “are more desirable by officials (Taliban) interventions in their private lives” and are afraid to increase the isolation of the country from the rest of the world.
“They have already accepted the end of the conflict, more stability and freedom of movement, at least for the male population,” he said. But this is not peace in which they can live in dignity in respect of their human rights and trust in a stable future. Autonibaeva added that over half of the population of Afghanistan – about 23 million people – needs humanitarian aid, a humanitarian crisis caused by decades of conflict, poverty roots, climatic shock and great growth of the population. He said that the decline of funding has a significant impact.
The United Nations mission indicated that over 200 health structures were forced to close during the last month, which hit about 1.8 million people, including children with malnutrition.
In another important case, the Security Council invited the Taliban to strengthen efforts to combat terrorism, sentenced all terrorist activities in Afghanistan and asked the country not to use to threaten or attack any other country.
The relationships between the nearby Afghanistan and Pakistan were stretched by the Talibano Pakistani movement, allies with the “Taliban” Afghan movement, have increased its attacks on the security forces in Pakistan. In the meantime, armed men of the Afggano ISIS branch, who opposed the Taliban, have made bombings throughout Afghanistan.
