The Russian businessman accuses a European lawyer who does not comply with an order to annul the sanctions

The entrepreneur is the objective of the sanctions of the European Union, included in the Package of Sanctions against the Russians, but the General Court of the European Union has forced a reversal of these sanctions, which the European Council is not satisfactory.
The Swiss-Russian Alexander Pumpyanskiy He told Euronews that his inclusion in the European Union sanctions list is “aberrant” and shows that the Council goes against a decision of the EU courts.
Alexander Pumpyanskiy, son of the Russian businessman Dmitry PumpyanskiyHe has been resident for a long time in Geneva who previously occupied positions in companies belonging to the father.
Initially, it was included in the lists of sanctions as a father associate, based on the positions he occupied in his companies, but now it is included in the criteria of altered sanctions of the EU in 2023, which include “close members of the family who benefit from the people included in the list.”
The General Court annulled these decisions, marking procedural failures and insufficient justification, since Pumpyanskiy had dismissed its commercial positions, and the Board did not appeal the decision.
“Unfortunately, the Board has not executed the decision and, 18 months later, I am still in the list of sanctions,” says Pumpyanskiy to Euronews, adds: “It is a completely aberrant decision that I do not understand; indeed, the Board is not implementing the decision of the court when it is not appropriate.”
“The reason to include myself in the list in 2022 was the association with my father,” he said, adding that “I have spent three years since I left the Board of these companies and won the case, so the only thing left to base the decision is the relationship with my father.”
In the interview, Pumpyanskiy told his experience with the sanctions.
“Finance are affected. Banks block the invoices. This is the first phase. Then follow other problems: we are deprived of all the basic services that everyone needs, especially mobile phones, national internet, insurance, cars, etc., so little by little, everyday life has become extremely complicated for me.”
The European Council did not respond to a request for Comments from Euronews.
