What are the most imported and exported products between China and the EU?

China was the third largest export partner in the EU and the country number one in imports of goods in 2024.

By 2024, the EU exported goods of 213.3 billion euros to China and imported 517.8 billion euros.

This situation led to a commercial deficit of 304.5 billion euros, according to the latest Eurostat data.

The only EU countries that registered commercial surpluses in China went to Ireland and Luxembourg.

The other 25 EU countries recorded commercial deficits, being the Netherlands the country with the largest deficit, with 85 billion euros.

China continued to be the largest commercial partner in the EU with respect to imports, which represents 21.3%of the total, followed by the United States, with 13.7%, and the United Kingdom, with 6.8%.

China was the third largest export partner in the EU, after the United States (20.6%) and the United Kingdom (13.2%).

Compared to 2023, both imports and exports decreased by 2024, falling 0.5% and 4.5%, respectively.

Between 2014 and 2024, imports from China increased 101.9%, while exports grew 47.0%.

The three largest importers in China were the Netherlands (109 billion euros), Germany (96 billion euros) and Italy (50 million euros).

However, the three largest exporters in the EU to China were Germany (90 billion euros), France (24 billion euros) and the Netherlands (24 billion euros).

EU exports of manufactured products (88%) had a much higher share than primary products (11%).

The most exported products were machines and vehicles (51%), followed by other manufactured products (20%) and chemicals (17%).

Similarly, by 2024, EU imports of manufactured products represented 97% of total imports, with primary products that represent only 2%.

The most imported products in China were electric machines, appliances and electrical parts, telecommunications and audio equipment and offices and data processing machines.

These three categories represented almost 40% of China’s total imports.
