Excessive fatigue, lack of behavior, difficulty concentration and grease of symptoms that may indicate both depression and anemia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 4.4 % of the world’s population suffers from depression, while anemia affects about 30 %, making it a global public health problem.
According to the doctor Barbara de Alycar, the distinction between the two frames is necessary to ensure the correct treatment. “Depression and anemia are among the common conditions in clinical practice. Both may be similar symptoms, such as fatigue, frustration and the difficulty of its concentration. However, they are distinct diseases with completely different treatment methods. Learn about these differences is essential to avoid wrong diagnosis and ensure a suitable treatment for each patient.”

According to the doctor, as well as common symptoms, the origin of each case is distinct. “Anemia, caused by iron deficiency, vitamin B12 or other changes in the blood, can be confirmed through laboratory tests such as the number of blood. Depression has a multi -factor base that involves nerve, genetic and environmental aspects, and is mainly diagnosed by clinical assessment.
What is depression
According to the World Health Organization, Brazil is the country with the highest depression rate in Latin America. Basically diagnosing depression is mainly, based on DSM-5 or ICD-10 standards. The questionnaires such as your depression scale are often applied as a way to assess the severity of the disease.
Mental disorder can arise even without a clear reason and extend for days, months and even years. Treatment should be adapted to the needs of each person and develop with a team of qualified professionals, such as psychiatrists and psychologists.
“It is important to perform laboratory tests to exclude the organic causes of similar symptoms, such as those in anemia, which are diagnosed with the laboratory, with the number of blood and supplementary tests such as the dose of Veritin, serum iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid, among other things,”
What is anemia
Unlike the common belief, there are seven different types of anemia. Among the most famous of the iron deficiency, to Latin anemia, caused by bone marrow problems, where the tissues stop the production of red blood cells, neutrophils and platelets, elements that form the defense of the body. For all cases, it is necessary to support a health worker, make a diagnosis and suggest a specific treatment for each patient.
Learn about the types of anemia
- Iron anemia: Iron is necessary to form red blood cells, and the lack of these minerals leads to reducing the number of these cells.
- Huge anemia: caused by vitamin B12 deficiency and folic acid. The name is due to the increase in the size of red blood cells in response to the smallest number in the body.
- Emogy anemia: stems from hemoglobins, where red blood cells acquire a sickle.
- Thalassemia: From the genetic nature, it can cause different levels of hemoglobin changes, such as secondary, middle and old.
- Gumin anemia: resulting from bone marrow problems, where the tissue stops the production of red blood cells, values and platelets properly
- Self -immune hemolytic anemia: The organism produces antibodies that attack and destroy red blood cells, in a process known as “blood degeneration”.
- Anemia through inflammation: related to an inflammatory condition, due to infection, or as a result of autoimmune disease
