The free party gathered Madeira yesterday with Omar Madeira, to listen and discuss urgent challenges in promoting women’s rights and dismantling the gender stereotypes in the independent region.
During the meeting, issues showing the need for the intervention of the public authority and the effective financial support of the UMR, an association that played a decisive role in forming, raising awareness and diagnosing gender violence – especially in the context of domestic violence and dating.
The free party, Madeira, reaffirms that the work developed by UMR is vital, especially given that this association has made functions right, should be attributed to government entities. Despite studies, awareness and prevention of gender equality promotion procedures, UMR continues to face a lack of financial support that prevents its structure and employing and stabilizing the basic human resources for the continuity of their work, and relying on specific support for the development of projects or procedures.
The government and the former social security were limited to promising support, without providing it, leaving an entity that fights daily for the social transformation without the necessary support, to freedom.
In response to this position, the free party Madeira presents, in its 2025 regional election program, and the following proposals, which are essential to enhance gender equality and combat violence against women:
“Ensure full sex in public institutions: to ensure the inclusion of gender equality as a priority goal in all institutional policies and practices.
• Combating gender violence: Implementing strict measures to confront domestic violence and acquaintance, with preventive and rapid intervention.
• Promoting equality education: Includes compulsory educational content on gender equality, domestic violence, sexual and reproductive rights in the curriculum, from pre -school and secondary levels, with the aim of dismantling stereotypes.
• Specialized training: Make training the security forces, health professionals, school agents and other civilian employees to prevent, identify it, and work in cases of abuse.
• Educating lawyers and judges: strengthening training and awareness programs directed to lawyers and judges, in order to ensure the adoption of the judicial system is more humane and effective in protecting women’s rights and addressing gender violence.
• Expanding the support network: expand the home network and receive emergency reception, ensure specialized and graceful services for the victims, as well as enhance the coordination of family courts and criminal courts to ensure immediate and effective responses.
“These proposals, in addition to the tireless struggle of associations such as UMR, shows a urgency in converting promises into concrete actions. The Free Madira Party requires government entities to fully recognize associations that perform basic functions in raising awareness and preventing the defense of women’s rights and gender equality, allowing them to continue to act effectively with society.”
