As part of the beginning of the diversity week, a “appearance of origin” show was opened today, and called for reflection “about the faces, appearance and stories of those who chose Funchal as a new home.

In the opening, council member Anna Prakamonti, the owner of the diaspora and immigration, said that what is dedicated to this exhibition, resulting from teamwork, is “seizing respect, truth and beauty on the face and appearance of those who came from afar and now reside in the city of Falls.”

This official also mentioned the human figure, noting that “every look that is photographed here is a silent testimony of belonging, identity and resistance”, and thanked all the photographers who agreed to share their image and history.

The council member also thanked the photographer Juan Gomez, a migrant himself, who is responsible for the photos presented: “Through his lens and counterpart, we can capture these moments of humanity that we share with you all.”

The mayor also stated that the exhibition allowed “to rotate from the camera inside, to admit that our land is currently a destination for access, welcome and diversity” and added: “We feel that it is necessary to register this stage of our collective history.

The exhibition represents a variety of countries such as Egypt, Nepal, Sao Tommy and Berncy, Angola, China, Italy, Tunisia, Pakistan, Germany, Ukraine, Romania, Brazil and Venezuela.

The opening of the exhibition was crowned with a musical moment starring artists Silvio Voobass and Buno Chitembo, Angolan musicians in Funchal, who include, through music, between cultures.
