AMMAN – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that due to low humanitarian aid and the lack of possibilities for resettlement, the situation of Syrian refugees in the kingdom has worsened, especially among the most vulnerable of them.
The Commission said in a report published yesterday that the most vulnerable, who suffer from dangerous health problems or unable to obtain work, have worsened in recent months, coinciding with the decline in aid.
In her periodic report on her operations in Jordan, she confirmed that she had provided refugees last February in February a size of $ 3.1 million as support to meet the basic needs, benefiting 20,000 local families, noting that they would continue to support needy families by meeting their basic needs.
To ensure that qualified refugees obtaining opportunities to develop their capabilitities and contributory to their societies, the commission, in cooperation with its partners, enhances employment skills and expanding the prospects for Livelihoods for refugees and jordanians, and previously facilitated the Retreral of 1,200 Azraq and al -zaiter camps to receive vital health aid, such as dialysis, newborn generation, newborn obstetrics, and member conservation services in health care facilitities its affiliate.
Al -Mutawasiya, in a previous report, stressed that there is an anxious increase in poverty rates in refugees in Jordan, because 67% of people registered with them as poor in 2023.
In “the evaluation of the weakness of the social and economic survey of refugees in host societies”, she indicated that Syrian refugees are poorer than non-Syrians, because the average poverty rate was 69% against 53% for others.
As for the poverty gap index, the survey indicated that it had increased between the 1920s and 2023, so that it increased from 16% to 22% among the refugees recorded in Jordan.
The increase in poverty gap by Syrians was greater than that of Syrians, because the poverty gap reached 23% in 2023, while it was estimated for non -Syrian refugees by 18% against 15% in 2021.
She said that limited employment possibilities had led to the low value of cash assistance transfers provided by the world food program, to exacerbate refugee conditions and increase their food insecurity.
In the first two months of this year, the financing volume obtained by the UNHCR of the international community reached 55 million, on the financing requirements that the Commission previously capable of $ 372.8 million for the current year.
On the other hand, the Commission confirmed that in response to refugee requests, the Commission provides advisory services and helping the field of transport to those who have expressed their intention to return to Syria voluntarily.
She pointed out that during last month, 18,500 Syrian refugees registered with the Commission returned, which represents a decrease of 20% compared to January, when more than 23,000 refugees returned to Syria, and 42 refugees left a third country in UNHCR programs.
