A Chinese artificial intelligence system predicts the repetition of liver cancer

A Chinese research team has developed an artificial intelligence tool capable of predicting the risk of recurrence of liver cancer with an accuracy of 82.2%, according to a study recently published in the journal “Nature”.

Liver cancer is the third largest cause of cancer deaths worldwide, as repetition of infection after surgery reaches 70%. The exact prediction of the repetition of the infection was a very important challenge.

According to the China news agency (Xinhua), today, Monday, researchers from the University of China for Science and Technology, led by Sun Chang, have developed an evaluation system called “Times”, which measures spatial distribution models of immune cells in the microscopic environment of the tumor to assess the possibility of relapses. This system is the world’s leading tool to predict the repetition of liver cancer to integrate spatial immune data.

The study has shown that the spatial organization of immune cells, and not only its quantity, is what determines clinical results. By combining space transitarometer, protein science and multi-spectrum textile chemistry and spatial analysis based on artificial intelligence, the team has created a new way to assess the exact environment of the tumor. The system was formed using liver tissue samples taken from 61 patients.

Researchers have made a free version via the internet of the system to assess the space distribution models of immune cells in the exact environment of tumor “times”; It allows users around the world to immediately download risk assessment images.

Sun Chang, the chief of the Chinese research team, explained that the latter aims to provide a revolutionary tool to make decisions to help doctors improve individual treatments, especially in limited resources environments.
