The terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam rocked not only Jammu-et-Cachemire, but also the whole country. 26 people lost their lives in this attack, while many others were injured. In the middle of this terrible attack, the professor of Assam Devashish Bhattacharya and his family just survived. Devashish is professor of Bengali department at the University of Assam. He was on vacation in Pahalgam with his family when terrorists attacked tourists.
Devashish has a long beard on his face. When he saw that there was a terrorist attack and that some people read Kalma, they also joined them and started reading Kalma aloud. Fortunately, the terrorists could not recognize it and leave it. When the terrorists reached Devashish Bhattacharya, they started reading Kalma to protect themselves without panic.
The terrorists reached him and asked him what he was doing, Devashish continued to read Kalma without any fear. After that, the terrorist stayed for a while, then left them and left. Devashish said that if he hadn’t read Kalma in the middle of this attack, he would also have joined people killed.
Devashish was accompanied by his wife Madhumita Das and his Draudeep son. This family is safe in Srinagar, but the terrible situation he felt during the attack is always in his mind. Madhumita’s brother Nbendu Das, speaking of the incident, said it was a terrible experience for the whole family. After the incident, the family shared an objection on the phone and said they still didn’t completely get it.
The Assam government has taken rapid measures to return this family. The ASSAM CM office informed social media that the government of the State is in contact with the central government and that the arrangements are taken to bring the family back to Assam soon. Devashish confirmed that he was safe with his family. Will return to Srinagar Assam on April 26.
