Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Friday that her administration had filed a complaint against Google for having displayed the name “Gulf of America” on her cards for American users, degenerating a dispute that involves giants of technology and legislators on both sides of the border.
“The trial has already been filed,” said Sheinbaum without specifying where or when it was submitted. She first warned against such a trial in February.

“This is what we ask to be included in the platform. We will see how this resolution of the US Congress is out, but they can only name the part of the territory of the United States,” said Sheinbaum.
She added: “What we say is that Google should put` Gulf of America ‘where it belongs, that is to say in the part which belongs to the United States, and that it should put “the Gulf of Mexico’ ‘in the territorial part that belongs to Mexico and Cuba. This is what we demand: that it appears on the platform.”
The controversy intensified Thursday when the House of Representatives controlled by the Republican has just adopted a bill to codify Trump’s executive order, Entitled “Restoring names that honor American greatness”, which required that all federal agencies update documents and cards to reflect the new name.
The measure, introduced by the representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA.), Now heads in the Senate, where his future remains uncertain.

She also accused Democrats of “fighting to keep the Gulf of America named the Gulf of Mexico because the cartels are their business partners”.
“They are fighting so much for cartels,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Democrats said that the bill was a waste of time and resources, and they accused the Republicans of having ignored important issues while wasting the head of the Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) House, called a “whole legislative day” to debate the bill.
The initiative is “silly, little spirit and sycophantic,” added Jeffries.
In addition to Google, Apple has also updated its cards so that American users reflect the new name, further fueling Mexico’s objections.
Sheinbaum said she had sent two letters to Google and warned legal action if the company did not limit the name to the American waters.
