Tens of thousands of people participated in the demonstrations of May 1 throughout Europe

International Labor Day, also known as May or International Workers Day, is an annual celebration that marks the struggles and achievements of workers and the labor movement worldwide. It is celebrated worldwide on May 1 and is a vacation in most countries.

The party has its origin in North America. In May 1886, a violent repression against the protesters in Chicago, known as the case of Haymarket, caused numerous dead and injured after a peaceful demonstration of support to the workers’ strike for an eight -hour workday.

This episode led that, four years later, the Second International of Paris invoked demonstrations in memory of the victims.

At the end of the 19th century, many European countries had already inspired this fight and on May 1 it became a worldwide phenomenon.

This year was no different, since many protests were carried out in the main European capitals in defense of workers’ rights.

France

Thousands of people participated in national protests, called unions throughout the country. More than 10,000 protesters took to the streets of Paris.

On Thursday, the police entered into conflict with the protesters in the capital.

The tension began when the protesters passed through the militants of the Socialist Party, who were invited to leave the protest, including a deputy, Jerome Groedj.

Thousands of people participated in the demonstrations, appealing to greater protection of workers, higher wages and greater equality.

The demonstrations took place in a context of political instability in the country, where a motionless floor and a historical parliamentary vote that dismissed the previous government in December left France without the government in its weeks.

Spain

Solidarity, the Workers’ Union of the early party and the traditional workers of the workers organized parallel demonstrations in Madrid on Labor Day.

Solidadad organized the demonstration together with the party leader, Santiago Abascal, in one of the Madrid regions of the Fuenlabrada region, to defend the rights of the working classes.

With Spanish flags, the protesters criticized the government and the blackout on Monday.

“The work in Spain is bad, many hours, under salary. Life is becoming more expensive and the government does nothing,” said Andreu Barba, a gardener.

Traditional workers unions, such as UGT (General Union of Workers) and CCOO (Workers Commission), made a demonstration in the city center, where they asked to continue the improvement of working conditions and the reduction of working hours.

Greece

Thousands of workers gathered in the center of Athens on Thursday to mark May 1.

Several workers’ unions and unions made a demonstration in front of the Parliament building, shaking flags and singing slogans against the government.

The student Foteini Douli said it was important to reflect and remember.

“Of course we are here to mark Labor Day, which after many struggles and with great effort, workers have been able to win the eight -hour trip, working conditions and rest,” he noticed.
