Suspect in the assassination of the Tulum police chief arrested in Veracruz

The Attorney General of Quintana Roo revealed on Monday that a 42 -year -old male suspect was arrested last Thursday as part of the murder of the police chief in the seaside resort of the Caribbean coast of Tulum.

The Attorney General of Quintana Roo Racel López told a press conference This state and the federal authorities arrested Alejandro “N”, alias “El Rayo”, in the city of Veracruz for his presumed involvement in the murder of the chief of municipal security.

The Attorney General said that “El Rayo” had acted on the instructions of a criminal leader from the northern state of Tamaulipas to kill Rodríguez.

He said the criminal chief was angry with the work that Rodríguez had done while a member of the Colima State police, including his participation in a research operation near the border with Jalisco.

López described the suspect detained as a “dangerous individual” linked to more than 100 murders perpetrated in northern Mexico.

He said that “El Rayo” had planned the murder with eight others hitmanor hired assassins, including “El Guatemalteco”.

López said the homicide was “very well planned”, explaining that Rodríguez and the relevant social media accounts were monitored for about five months before the Minister of Security was killed in order to determine things such as his daily movements, the number of body guarantees he had and what public events in which he would participate.

“Due to various circumstances, they have not achieved their objective,” said López.

After his arrest, Alejandro “N” was transported by plane to Cancún, where a judge ordered that he was placed in preventive detention for homicide.

If he is found guilty, he risks a sentence of up to 50 years in prison. López said the authorities were trying to arrest those who collaborated with the suspect detained in homicide planning in Tulum.

“At Quintana Roo, the one who commits a crime of this nature will face the consequences,” he said.
