MND’s team discusses and constantly debates the level of detail that we think that our readers would like to know with regard to Mexican political leaders and political issues in general in the country. Our original thought was that many people live or who are already interested in Mexico probably had enough politics in their country of origin and, therefore, would not be interested in what is happening politically in Mexico. I remember once the team said “no political coverage other than the president, and even this coverage should be very limited.”
That said, our thought has evolved in the past year while the political landscape of Mexico and the world has changed. There were in fact three key events that led to a change of steps in the level of interest of our readers. The first took place during the Mexican presidential election of 2024. Once the candidates’ domain was reduced to two women, Xóchitl Gálvez and Claudia Sheinbaum, our readers wanted more and more to know more about each of them.
The second key event was when Sheinbaum won the elections and assumed the presidency in October of last year. Our readers have taken an increased interest in our daily lives Mañanera Summary of the press conference of what Sheinbaum and his team spoke and focused on. The third event was when Trump won the elections in the United States and started talking about the very specific actions he would take against Mexico on everything, deportations and cartels on the border and prices.
We believe that there is growing recognition on both sides of the border that our challenges can not be resolved – and our opportunities cannot be carried out – without close cooperation between the two countries. Can the United States really become less dependent on China without the help of Mexico? Can Mexico solve medication / cartel problems without help from the United States? Can the United States stop immigrants on the southern border without the help of Mexico? Can one or the other country fully achieve its potential without the help of the other? We firmly believe that the answer is more and more: no.
In response to this, we now devote several articles a day to political and economic discussion and the debate between Mexico and the United States. Every day of the week, we have a brief summary easy to read on what President Sheinbaum and his administration are focused. In addition, we have a summary of what President Trump said about Mexico and how Sheinbaum answers it. Whether or not we love the increasingly accelerated and constantly evolving news cycle, it is a reality and we are committed to helping you understand the latest developments and impacts.
Consequently direct of this increased interest that we see from our readers, We are now expanding our coverage to include additional reports on other key players beyond president Sheinbaum that we think that our readers must know.
We are very aware of the fatigue and anxiety that many people have hyper-accelerated news cycle in recent months and our intention is obviously not to add to this. However, important and influential people shape news and events in Mexico that we want to share with you. The MND team promises to be very clear about the reasons why these people are important and why they are relevant to you.
You will see that we add new team members and introduce new formats. In recent weeks, María Melenndez, an experienced journalist and producer of video content based in the heart of Mexico City, has undertaken a new project at MND. María has her finger on the country’s economic and political pulse, and she is now running a team that has produced four different video / short video reports on the main leaders of Mexico, including, but without limiting herself, Sheinbaum.

Many women in the country have great hopes of change, but have the impression that the president did not do enough. Johnson is an unconventional choice with a unique experience that will probably result in a different objective as an ambassador of his predecessors. The fourth and most recent profile was of Omar Garcia Harfuch, the new Secretary for Security and Civil Protection of Mexico. Garcia Harfuch has the work exceptionally difficult to try to improve the country’s security situation. It was formed by the CIA and the DEA and was in fact the victim of an assassination attempt. Its role is increasingly under the spotlight given recent comments from the United States. Maria gives us her history and describes the challenges he faces.
