Chamber of the Fair opens a race for the redevelopment of the Largo of the Church of Argoncilhe
The first step is led to one of the most important urban interventions in Argoncilhe. The municipal council of Santa Maria da Feira approved this Monday 19 May in a meeting of the executive, the opening of the public tender for the urban redevelopment of the Church of Largo Da. An investment that exceeds one million euros and will give new life, dynamism and centrality to one of the most symbolic spaces of the parish.

The project includes the redevelopment of the square and the surrounding roads, the creation of areas for leisure, the improvement of road and pedestrian conditions, as well as the reorganization of the existing green structure. One of the main innovations is the installation of a mirror of water with vertical jets and a pedestrian bridge, which strengthens the beauty of the wide and invites tranquility and enjoy space.
The proposal of architecture appreciates pedestrian mobility and coexistence in public space. The road of S. Martinho will be reduced, raised to the altitude of the rides and the reduced maximum speed, making the circulation safer. It is also expected to create a covered structure next to the parish council, designed as a multifunctional space.
This redevelopment also includes new urban equipment and furniture: benches, fountains, patches, bicycle parking, planters, mupis, children’s equipment – and a new waterfall for green areas. The sculpture currently installed will be integrated into the new water mirror and Cruzeiro will benefit from a new landscape frame.
“This is a deeply transformative job for the Argoncilhe Center, designed to improve the quality of life of the population, preserving the identity of that place. It was a demanding process, which had to face difficulties, but from which the house never gave up,” explained Amadeu Albergaria, mayor of Santa Maria da Feira.
With the approval of the opening of the public offer, “we take a decisive step in achieving an investment that enhances the public space, promotes well -being, soft mobility and intergenerational conviviality. Argoncilhe deserves this new urban impulse, which returns to the civic center of the parish a renewed energy, more human and more attractive”, strengthens the Mayor.
The launch of the competition procedure marks the formal beginning of this structuring intervention, long awaited by the population of Argoncilhe.
