Glass and particularly dangerous metals parach

This intervention of the Council is part of the “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature” program

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura made a cleaning smoothie in one of the environments with the greatest historical value and identity for Fuerteventura, the Vega de Río Palmas in the municipality of Betancuria. The crews concentrated the collection work on bottles and cans, two materials with special danger for people and ecosystems.

The president of Cabildo, Lola García, underlines that the intervention is part of “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature”, a powerful program of “small proximity actions” of the island company to preserve all the corners of the island.

The Minister of Works and Machines, Acosta Blas, appreciates this performance of the crews of “Fuerteventura, Beautiful by Nature”. “It is necessary to insist whenever it is necessary that there can be no garbage in our natural places, but also less in such an emblematic space for Fuerteventura as the Vega de Río Palmas,” he says.

Blas Acosta stresses that “when these are also potentially dangerous materials for people and the natural environment such as glass and metals, for cuts, infections or fires, it is essential that public powers act on the ground, but also that citizenship becomes aware”.

In this action, more than 6 cubic meters of glass and cans were collected which were in the natural environment of La Vega de Río Palmas. To do this, band operators have used manual means such as hoes and rakes.
