The activities begin on March 21, at 9.30 pm, with the inauguration of the temporary exhibition “Heritage in Network: A Fish, a community, two countries”, by the documentary photographer Eduardo Martins. The show derives from a photographic project on the Atlantic tuna-rabil, a migratory species of great ecological and economic relevance. Martins’s work documents the extinction of the fishing of this fish on the Algarve coast since 1972 and its rehabilitation in the 90s by a Japanese company. The exhibition reveals the merger among the traditional fishing techniques with innovative frames and Japanese capture methods, illustrating the adaptation of ancestral knowledge to the contemporary world. After capture, tuna-rabilho has an almost exclusive destination of the demanding Japanese market. The exhibition will be patent until May 25th.

Also on the night of March 21, the “Sea Talk” is held on the theme “Women, water and environmental responsibility”, with the participation of Cris Marcondes, who will present the “Aguadeiras” project. Through dance, music and theater, the ancestral cultures of the water woman are saved, in an approach that leads us to reflect on the conservation of water resources, the earth and the way we live today.

On March 22, between 10:00 and 13:00, a cycle of training sessions on ocean literacy, intended for the teaching community and other interested parties begin. The first session will be conducted by the biologist Diana Feijó, the Portuguese institute of the sea and the atmosphere (IPMA) and will face the importance of marine sustainability and good practices for the consumption of sustainable fish. This short -term training is certified by the Ilhavo school training center Vagos and Oliveira do Bairo. The recordings can be made through the site https://cfaecivob.pt/wp/.

For the little ones, at 10:30, the Bebecca of the ílhavo municipal library moves to the Maritime Museum to simplify the reading of the story “Learn with animals: who eats what?”

At night, from 21:00, the museum receives children from 6 to 12 years for a unique experience: sleeping in the company of cod. Before the well -deserved rest, the participants will have the opportunity to learn more about this species that the aquarium lives.
