The Pateira de Frossos Interpretation Center (Cipf) celebrated its third anniversary, reaffirming its role as a dynamic center of environmental education, the enhancement of the territory and the promotion of ecological citizenship in the municipality of Albergaria-A-Valha.

The ceremony was attended by the rector of the University of Aveiro, Paulo Jorge Ferreira, having been the opportunity for the municipality of Albergaria-A-Volha to celebrate several cooperation protocols with the establishment of higher education, which will allow the regular reception of university students and a master’s degree for curriculum stages in various areas. In particular, the agreement with the Department of Biology, led by Fernando Gonçalves, aims to transform Pateira de Frossos a living laboratory for the future scientists of the country, transforming this wet area into a pedagogical tool of excellence.
The ceremony also had the official launch of the “Flora of Pateira de Frossos”, the result of field work and scientific research that aims to support the knowledge and conservation of local biodiversity.
As regards the results obtained from the Center in its first three years of activity, 187 activities have been enhanced, with 3440 participants involved, numbers reflecting the growing impact of the structure on the local and regional community. Among the milestones already achieved, we highlight the creation of the AMMOSOS wall, located in the village, which honors local nature and culture and have become a point of identity and pride for the population.
As for the future, several ambitious projects have been announced:
• the creation of an environmental volunteer center, to be installed at the former elementary school of Frossos, which will be restored to welcome awareness -raising activities and ecological intervention;
• The Pateira de Frossos Fauna Guide, currently being developed;
• the production of a documentary on Pateira de Frossos, which will make known to the public the natural and human wealth of this singular landscape;
• the deepening of scientific studies on the Ecosystem of Pateira, in collaboration with the academic institutions;
• The creation of a mural in the center of interpretation itself, strengthening the artistic and interpretative component of the space.
Councilor Sandra Almeida stressed that this route was possible thanks to the dedication and commitment of the daily team to the center, taking on a continuous commitment for the quality, innovation and closeness to the community. “Special thanks to the team of the center of interpretation, which has worked tirelessly to promote and evaluate Pateira de Frossos, ensuring that this natural space is increasingly known and appreciated,” he said.
The third anniversary of the Center represented not only a celebration of the path taken, but also a moment of projection for the future, strengthening the commitment for environmental education, scientific research and the involvement of the community in the conservation of nature.
