Reductioning losses on networks is among the concerns of the new government strategy for water. This is a chronic problem in the Portuguese supply system and the data recently released by Ersar demonstrate it.
The report “Caralyzing of the water and waste sector” shows that in 2023 Portugal lost 225 million m3 of water. That is, of all the water that entered the networks, for a year, 26.9% did not reach the touches of consumers.
Information about Oliveira de Azeméis, the most recent ratio shows that in 2023 the waste has settled at 17.5%, a result considered “good” by the regulator, that is, below 20%.
The management of these losses is promoted by Esten Oliveira de Azeméis, head of the management of the entire network of the Municipality. For this, both the “real losses” so called (losses, damage or breakage) and “commercial losses”, caused by deviations of water or measurement of errors on the accounting.
“The efficient management of supply networks is a priority in our functioning and we aim to gradually reduce them, as in the general territory. So far we have positive results, but we want them to become more and more exemplary, contributing to the sustainability in the use of the water resources of this county “, says Nuno Laranjo, general manager of Esteno Oliveira de Azeméis.
In 2023, the average losses of the eight municipal concessions of the Edhequal Group (Santo shooting/Trofa, Santa Maria da Feira, Matosinhos, Vila do Conde, Oliveira de Azeméis, Barcelos, Paços de Ferreira and Marco de Canaves) were set at 11%, minus 1.5 percent of previous points.
