The Ministry of Education, Professional Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poly Suárez, sponsored this Friday a meeting attended by about fifty companies and entities relating to the sports sector in the archipelago, with the aim of promoting the training process of the future cluster of the Sport of the Canary Islands.
This first meeting, Held at the headquarters of the Presidentcy in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was awaited by the Deputy Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Sabroso Ángel, and the Exhibition in Charge of the Representative of More Canary Sports, Which Leads the Creation of This Group, José Hernández, As Well As Carmen Sosa, Representative of the Group of Experts that Currently Works in the Formation of the cluster.
Promoted by the area consultant, Poly Suárez, the creation of what would be the first group of companies in the sector in the Canary Islands is part of a specific collaboration between most of the Sport Canary Association Islands with the Ministry, the vehicle through the deputy Ministry of Physical Activity and Sport. This public-private alliance was created during the first edition of Expodeca, Congress I and the Fair of physical and sport of the Canary Islands, held last November.

Currently, the sports industry in the Canary Islands has 2,500 companies, generates 20,000 jobs, which translates into three percent of the Canary GDP. Therefore, it is estimated that between a thirteen and fifteen percent of tourists who visit the islands, among their objectives, the practice of physical and sporting activity. “These are data that deserve the opportunity to grow together in quality and competitiveness,” he concluded.
Since September 2024, the Più Canary Sports Association has started the study of alternatives and contacts to establish the cluster, which has among its objectives to connect athletes, companies, entities, universities and research centers, promote training and knowledge, enhance projects and events, promote innovation and digitization, support the expansion and growth of companies in the sector and provide this greater visibility.
