France highlights the importance of Jordan’s participation in the conference on the ocean …

AMMAN – The French ambassador for ocean affairs and the French president’s special envoy to the United Nations Oceanic Conference (UNOC3) for the year 2025, Olivier Boufar Darfour, stressed the importance of Jordan’s participation in the conference planned in Nice in France between June 7 and 13.
The conference organizers said in an interview with the remote television press with the Palais d’Elysee Palace in France, dedicated to the international press, in which the Jordanian press through the French Embassy in Jordan participated in the role reflected in Jordanian participation in the conference, in the heart of the region, which is most affected by the challenges linked to the development of purchasing and development.
Darfur underlined the importance of the role and reflection of Jordan’s participation in the conference, that 70 of world leaders, ministers, government officials and representatives of a civil society, are called, because its confusion is linked to specific priorities and objectives, linked to the target of 14 of sustainable development objectives and support for the development of the sustainable blue economy.
He has referred to the importance of the conference by inviting countries that are not coastal, including Jordan, and the importance of ratifying the Convention on the Protection of Biological Diversity, indicating that there was no confirmation of the presence of all leaders so far, pointing to ensure special dialogue in the Mediterranean.
The conference, sponsored by France and Costa Rica, aims to counter what the United Nations describe as a “global emergency” threatening the oceans, in the light of high temperatures, pollution of the seas with plastic, excessive exploitation of fish and other marine resources, and the unification of the oceans to take decisive measures and fundraising to survive to survive, Faced with the oceans, and the world’s population depending on their survival.
France’s priorities during the conference include obtaining 60 ratification of the Treaty to protect biological diversity on the high seas, which were adopted in 2023 to enter into force, and its tasks include sustainable fishing guarantee, the mobilization of support to preserve 30% of ocean water, fight plastic pollution, accelerate the elimination of carbon for maritime transport and mobilize funding.
It is expected that participants in the conference will adopt a declaration that the work does not progress enough to deal with the effects of “the crisis of the triple planet, which is climate change, the loss of biological diversity and pollution”.
The conference will focus on “the acceleration of work and the mobilization of actors to preserve the oceans, to use them in a sustainable manner”, supporting the implementation of the objective 14, with 3 main priorities, to develop an ambitious plan for the oceans, to complete the multilateral operations associated with the oceans, to fulfill financing resources for the target 14 and to improve knowledge related to the marine sciences and to publish them.
His Majesty King Abdullah II sponsored the ocean international summit in the oceans, in its regional version for the first time, in the Dead Sea region last year, while the Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al -Saud stressed the importance of carrying out projects that are compatible with the concept of “green growth”.
The summit is a “separate framework to highlight the main initiatives of Jordan, and it is a model to transform the challenges into useful contributions”, in the midst of Jordanian efforts to overcome these contributions, the geographic boundaries of Jordan and the only marine window in Aqaba, parallel and the importance of preservation, management and development of natural resources, effects of climate change.
They also referred to the contribution of this conference by establishing regional and global partnerships to protect the marine environment, especially since it opens the field of the exchange of experiences, opinions and visible visions, in addition to the importance of the conference by providing the field to engage in targeted discussions, to achieve a balance between ocean protection efforts and improve economic growth.
