Giving information, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vikram Misri, said that at 3:35 p.m. today, there was a conversation between the DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) of the two countries, in which this important decision was made. Misri said that during the conversation, the two countries agreed that military action on all fronts will be closed with immediate effect from 5 p.m. today. With this, there was a ceasefire between the two countries. Misri said that on May 12, officials from the two countries will discuss other strategies.

At the same time, the strict measures that India had taken against Pakistan after Pahgam’s terrorist attack will continue. According to information, the penalty action that India has taken against Pakistan on April 23 included a suspension in good place the industrial water Treaty and this stage will always be effective.

Sources have indicated that this cease-fire was called a “bilateral agreement” by Pakistan, but the emphasis is on zero tolerance against terrorism.

Meanwhile, American president Donald Trump said that America’s arbitration was important in this cease-fire agreement between India and Pakistan. Trump wrote on social networks, after a long night conversation, I am happy to announce that India and Pakistan have accepted the complete and immediate ceasefire.

Although there is no direct declaration on this Agreement of India, it is clear that strict stages such as the ban on the Industry Water Treaty will not be withdrawn at the moment.

What is the Indus water agreement?

The Industry Water Agreement was signed between Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani military general Ayub Khan in September 1960 in Karachi. As part of the Industry Water Treaty 62 years ago, India obtained 19.5% of water from the Indus and its tributaries. Pakistan obtains about 80% water. India also uses approximately 90% of water on its part. In 1960, the agreement was signed between India and Pakistan dividing the Indus valley into 6 rivers. Under this Agreement, a meeting of the Indus Water Commission is compulsory between the two countries each year.

The last meeting concerning Industes Water Treaty took place on May 30 to 31, 2022 in New Delhi. This meeting was described by the two countries as cordial. India has the right to East rivers. While Western rivers were given under the authority of Pakistan. This agreement was armed by the World Bank. Of the total, 168 million acres of Sutlej, Beas and delighted with India, 33 million annual water acres were allocated.

After using India, the remaining water goes to Pakistan. While around 135 million acres of annual Western rivers like Indus, Jhelum and Chenab were allocated to Pakistan. The Indus water system includes the main river as well as five tributaries. These rivers include Ravi, Beas, Sutlej, Jhelum and Chenab. These rivers flow to the left of the Industry river. Ravi, Beas and Sutlej are called oriental rivers while Chenab, Jhelum and Indus are called Western rivers. The water of these rivers is important for India and Pakistan. In such a situation, it will be heavy for Pakistan to postpone this agreement.
