Salamanca Hospital celebrates 100 of the pancreas and the kidneys of living donors

More than fifty professionals of Castilla Y León transplants met on Tuesday in Salamana on the occasion of the meeting of 100 pancreatic transplants and many kidney transplants donated at the University Hospital in Salanka.

Archbishop Fonsika will host this independent meeting today when various round tables will occur in which issues such as current inclusion standards will be addressed in the waiting list of these procedures, and the surgical techniques used in Castilla Y León or the Monitoring and Experience of Patients after these interventions. In addition, during the afternoon, the IV regional meeting will be held for monitoring and complications in patients with kidney transplantation, pancreas-leon and liver.

The Assistant Complex at the University of Salamanca began in the kidney transplant program in 1983. Since then, the reason has shown its commitment to the health service in Castilla Y León with a direct influence area covering the health areas of Salamanca, Zamora, ávila and Burgos, which attends more than a million people.

Today, Salamanca Hospital today presented a total of 1644 kidney transplants, including 119 Benksreb Ryun or the pancreas (11), and 115 kidney transplants of the living donor. In 2009, the Pancreating-Ri and Pancreas Agriculture Program, which was adopted in 2014, began as a center and reference service (CSUR) for the entire national region, a discrimination that was renewed in November 2024 and confirms the leadership of the cause in this field.

The end of 2024 was a historical record for the Salamana Hospital, with 10 pancreatic transplants, 7 of which combined and three isolated pancreas, where she placed itself as the second transplant center in Spain in this type of intervention.

Since 2011, the drain’s kidney transplant program has continued to grow, reaching 115 procedures, including 10 cross -transplants, in a center that also represents a reference for the entire community. In 2025, the first five interventions in this field were carried out with robotic surgery with the help of Da Vinci, a technique that improves the patient’s recovery and places the Salamanca Hospital between the five Spanish centers with the ability to perform this technique.

In addition, in 2024, the Salama Hospital began part of the 12 Spanish centers involved in the interrupted international implant program, which allows patients with chronic kidney failure and who do not comply with a living donor in their country, and reach a dialysis of a live donor from another country. A program that allows you to continue expanding the borders and adding to an international cooperation network that saves lives.
