The neighborhood complaints about the growing stands in the mayor of Roa Salamanca

Extension and number of stands in the historic center of Alamenka generates tensions between citizens. During this week, one of the neighborhood neighbors contacted this newspaper to alert that the balcony in the corner of the mayor of Rúa has moved several meters abroad, thus invading part of the usual step and generating a new annoyance.

While moving, the displacement reaches about three meters to Plaza Del Corrillo, which forces pedestrians to adjust their usual way to reduce installation. Although the total number of tables has not increased, but the location of these moves, and since they condemn, it increases the exacerbation of both in the practical sense and in aesthetics in a symbolic and occupied area in the city, says one of the neighbors who participated in the comparative photos between the behavior last year and the current angle. “It is unbearable.”

The neighborhood complaints about the occupation of the public space by the stands are not new in Salamanca. Part of citizens believe that the current model prefers hotel institutions to ensure the movement of pedestrians and urban image.

In the same way that occurred on Zamora Street, which recently established a municipal decree to reduce the stands by half, it is expected that the council will take measures in this matter and create a similar scale in other areas of Salamana saturated with tables and chairs.

In addition, “Tasazo”, which started at the beginning of March, is a tax on the stands that reduced the occupation of 700 licenses to 359, eliminating chairs and tables during a part of the year. However, the institutions that decided to keep throughout the year were 60 %.

This new episode in Rúa again places the table the need to rethink the limits and conditions of the stands in the areas of heritage and pedestrians, even more at a time when coexistence between entertainment, tourism and neighborhoods becomes increasingly tense.
